Emerald

emerald

It is a precious stone falling into a group of minerals called Beryl, having a magmatic origin, meaning that these minerals took form by crystallization of lava or magma. It is not certain which language the name emerald comes from, but in all languages, its name means a green gem.

The beautiful green color of the emerald is caused by oxides of chromium or vanadium. Emerald can be green, greenish-yellow or green-gray in different shades. The first known emerald references were during the overseas voyage when the Spanish sailing ship Cortez arrived in Europe from his trip to South America.

Coloration and characteristics

The most valuable is such an emerald, which has a green color like fresh grass, with velvety shine. As with Sapphires, the color is not sufficiently dispersed in the crystal, but sometimes forms even more noticeable layers in which this color is represented in greater or lesser intensity.

Emerald is also dichronic, which means that the artificial light of a bulb has an emerald color different from the natural daylight. The change of color does not reflect this phenomenon as such, but a shade that can vary from greenish yellow to greenish blue, and this phenomenon is most evident in fully colored cut stone.

The natural emerald crystals are matt, only after cutting the stones become shiny with unique brilliance and velvety shine. The quality of cut gemstones is judged by the presence of refractions and inclusions that should not occur in high-quality emerald; another parameter is the color of the stone, the size measured in carats and also the cut, which is the last perfect dot in the processing of precious stone.
