Amethyst belongs to a large group of precious stones of Quartz, which includes quite many color variations, such as the Rose Quartz, pure Crystal or yellow Citrine. Since the Middle Ages, it has an essential place in episcopal rings as a symbol of faith and spiritual purity.

Classical Amethyst has a purple to lavender color in different saturates from almost clear to opaque. Such a profoundly colored to dark Amethyst is called Siberian Amethyst, although it may not even come from the named region. Amethyst has been a very popular gem since ancient times when people wore it as a talisman against drunkenness.

Amethyst locations

The most famous Amethyst locations are in Uruguay, wherefrom come extraordinarily beautiful and highly valued Amethyst stones for their distinctive dark color. Other sites are located in Brazil, the USA, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, India or Russia.

In the world, it occurs quite often and mostly in the form of a druses or geodes. The Amethyst geode is a combination of individual crystals into a coherent formation, in the middle of which is a cavity, a cave. This formation is typical for Amethyst and is abundant in Brazil. Interesting for collectors is the Amethyst from Russia, which can have a color with a crimson touch.

The gray surface of the Amethyst geode is a hardened natural surface that is usually very fragile.
