Malachite

malachite

Malachite is a bright green stone and has a beautiful, striped lineation like an agate reminiscent of flowers or bubbles. The green color of Malachite causes a copper occurring at the mining site from where the malachite originates.

This rare gemstone has been called Malachite, the name comes from the word of Malache, which in Greek means verdure or the word Malachos, soft.

Malachite was used for its specific color in ancient times, ground to powder, as a colorant or in Egypt as a make-up. This is about to the low hardness of this mineral which is 4 out of 10 on Mohs hardness scale because malachite is very easy to grind.

Malachite and its locations

Malachite's best-known location is Congo (sometimes called Zaire), near Zimbabwe, and in the other states in Africa, from Congo to the south. The other locations in the world are in Russia, the US, India, China, Mexico, Chile or Israel, where are primarily known King Solomon's mines near the Red Sea. Over the Red Sea and the Sinai Peninsula, the Malachite was transported to Egypt, where it was honored as the stone of goddess Hathor. She was a goddess of woman beauty and malachite has been labeled as a woman's stone for centuries up to now.

In times of Christianity was the woman's beauty deliberately suppressed, and from malachite suddenly became a stone of seduction and moral misfortune. An exception was Russia when, during the reign of Tsar Nicholas, malachite was used as a decoration and the main building element in the Malachite Hall at the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. Malachite actually replaced the decoration of jasper, which was damaged during a fire in the first half of the 19th century. Malachite is used in the salon for framing a large fireplace, decorative columns throughout the room, large vases, tables, and other decorative and utility items. If you have a trip to Russia, the Winter Palace in St Petersburg is definitely worth to visit.

Malachite with azurite

Malachite is actually a metamorphic Azurit, which is an azure blue mineral. Both minerals, both azurite and malachite, are extremely fragile and sensitive, for example, in the body sweat, and can lose color when they are in contact. Malachite and azurite occur together, and their combination is fascinating, when on beautifully green stone shine pieces of green azurite.

As seen in the pictures, malachite occurs naturally with the blue azurite.
The reason is that Malachite is actually a metamorphic (transformed) azurite.

In the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, the salon is decorated with malachite, which replaced the original jasper decoration destroyed during a fire. Malachite is used on the decorative columns, fireplace's tiles, large ornamental vases and other equipment of the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg.

On the physical level, malachite acts as a woman's protector. Protects and helps women with menstrual pains and childbirth pains as it supports our body in natural processes of self-healing or regeneration. Malachite promotes creativity and often surpasses its fascinating look.

Never lick malachite or make any elixirs from it because it is poisonous to our body. We are also careful to crush malachite powder, which we do not breathe in any way, and we would instead use a mask. Malachites are highly susceptible to water and other chemical agents or sweat. Therefore, wear it so that the malachite in the jewelry does not have direct contact with the skin, which can be treated with cosmetic detergents. Choose rather malachite jewelry that has a precious metal edge, e.g. silver. Clean the malachite by placing a smaller bowl in the bigger bowl of water, where we put the malachite along with the crystal or the crystal pebble so that the malachite does not have direct contact with water.
