Moonstone

moonstone

The moonstone also called "little moon" comprises the different types. The basic types include "rainbow" and "adularia." This beautiful stone was named thanks to the mysterious play of light inside the stone that shines like a moon on the night's surface of the lake or river. This gloss is among mineralogists called "adularescence," and this optical phenomenon arises so that the rays of light break and reflect inside the layers of the stone. These layers consist of two minerals otroclas and albite, which were superimposed during their formation in very thin layers.

A similar phenomenon can also be observed in other feldspar minerals, such as labradorite. From the word, adularescence has sometimes used the name for the moonstone adularia. The color of the moonstone is white, milky to greyish; some adularias are pastel colors in warm earthy tints.

Moonstone and its mining sites

The moonstone's most famous finds are in India, Burma or Sri Lanka. The most sought-after stones come from these locations. Other world's locations of these gemstones are in countries rich in mineral resources such as Brazil, USA, Australia, Russia or Africa, especially Madagascar. Interesting almost translucent adularias come from a site in the Austrian Alps, which are quite close to Bohemia.

Moonstone in jewelry

Moonstone is very often used for jewelry. Since time out of mind, people have been fascinated by this stone and believed that the moonstone is a piece of the moon's ray. They were massively processed into jewels during the time of ancient Greece. People at this time had advanced tools to process this fragile stone, and they were able to work with the precious metals to which this gem was inserted. A precious metal edging such as gold or silver is very important, as it is a small clack that can damage this fragile stone. The next period, when the moonstone was in the sunny side, was a period of Art Nouveau when people turned away from the technology back to nature.

Exacting and expensive jewels created beautiful natural motifs, such as butterflies and flowers, in which small pieces of precious stones and larger pieces were placed as central stones. Even though the Art Nouveau jewels were very richly decorated with stones and moonstones, they surprised by their lightness and softness. Even in today's advanced time, we are once again returning to natural resources, and the moonstone and its jewels are very popular. However, instead of richly decorated jewels, fashion jewelry is now made of precious stones, where only a minimum of smooth metal, most often silver, is lined and protects this beautiful moonstone with distinct adularescence.

How to clean and recharge the moonstone

You can cleanse the moonstone under a stream of water, and we charge it on the crystal drose at night in the moonlight, best in full moon. When the moon is reversing the charging is not very heavy; it is better to charge it when it grows, with lunar rays have more energy that they can transfer.
